Family Law Attorney Duties and Responsibilities
- Providing expert legal advice and representation to clients in various family law matters, including divorce, child custody and support, spousal support, and adoption cases.
- Conducting thorough legal research and analysis to develop effective strategies for clients' cases.
- Representing clients in court proceedings, mediations, and negotiations.
- Conducting interviews with clients, witnesses, and experts to gather relevant information and evidence.
- Drafting legal documents, including petitions, motions, and agreements.
- Collaborating with colleagues, such as other attorneys and support staff, to ensure comprehensive case management.
- Staying updated on relevant laws, regulations, and legal precedents in the field of family law.
Family Lawyer Skills
- Aptitude in client-facing matters and exceptional communication skills.
- The ability to empathize while remaining professional.
- The ability to cope with emotionally taxing situations.
- Passion for helping people and fostering relationships.
- Strong drafting and negotiating skills.
- Understanding and experience of litigation and other dispute resolution methods.
- The ability to explain legal matters to clients with little or no legal knowledge.
- The ability to work with people of all ages from all walks of life, including children and the elderly.
Family Law Attorney Requirements and Qualifications
- LLB or Juris Doctor
- Current license
- Member of the Manitoba Bar in good standing
- Communication and organizational skills
