Position brief

Position Title: Recovery Engagement Worker – Café, Garden and Maintenance Unit

Location

General summary

Mosaic Clubhouse is an integrated clubhouse and resource centre providing personalised community support to people with mental health problems in Lambeth. Our aim is to create a supportive community and opportunity centre, designed to identify and fulfil individual and collective potential. Members’ work, energy and ideas are needed to make the clubhouse function. Clubhouse members actively participate in decision-making and in all operational and administrative functions of the clubhouse, and the services it provides to members and visitors to the centre.

The Café and Garden unit is responsible for the running of the café, and maintaining the clubhouse gardens, caretaking, and maintenance, including the Clubhouse vehicle.

Position Objective

The post involves the combined role of providing recovery support for members and to focus to on engaging members in ensuring that cleaning and gardening tasks are routinely carried out, planned maintenance is completed and health and safety procedures observed.

The post-holder is required to work to the ethos of recovery with the specific role of engaging members and organising the unit work so that it is performed in partnership and accessible to all members.

Key competencies / responsibilities

Goal- Planning and Mentoring

§ Identify members’ strengths and skills by involving them in the work of the clubhouse and, in so doing, support members to regain confidence and self-esteem.

§ Assist members to build a positive relationship with the clubhouse by identifying and achieving goals, then building on these achievements to make further progress.

§ Ensure that goals, individual support, and vocational outcomes are monitored and recorded using our database, Salesforce.

Employment Support

§ Assist in the overall management of the Transitional Employment Programme and provide individual mediation and support as required.

Café, Garden and Maintenance Unit Support

§ Work under the guidance of the Cafe and Garden Coordinator to ensure that building and garden maintenance is carried out according to the agreed schedule.

§ Develop with members project for the unit, encourage creativity and inter unit engagement.

§ Motivate and engage members in the works required in the building and garden, identifying, and delegating tasks, providing supervision and support or training needed by the members to perform tasks.

§ Collect and submit data reports and any other administrative tasks of the Unit.

§ Any other duties, as which may from time to time be agreed with the Chief Executive, Hospitality Coordinator or Programme Manager.

Other Activities

Clubhouse Participation

§ Comply with Mosaic Clubhouse’s policies and procedures, in accordance with all instructions, information and training supplied, and Clubhouse International.

§ Work alongside members respecting and promoting the ethos and philosophy of the Mosaic Clubhouse.

§ Help members and staff to create a welcoming atmosphere for visitors and members.

§ Promote positive understanding, awareness, and attitudes of mental health issues amongst others and promote the Clubhouse Model and Mosaic within the wider community.

§ Attend, participate and chair meetings within Mosaic Clubhouse, encouraging and facilitating participation of members in governance and decision-making.

§ Attend and participate in the social and leisure activities of Mosaic Clubhouse in the spirit of the clubhouse philosophy. This will include some evening, weekend, and public holiday work on a rota basis.

§ Participate in routine cleaning and maintenance tasks as required.

Information governance and confidentiality

§ All staff will be given training in information governance and its importance and will be expected to undertake and successfully complete an online assessment to demonstrate their competence in this area.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

Drawing upon involvement in previous and current employment, educational training and personal experiences, applicants are required to demonstrate their competency to meet each of the key work areas.

Essential Criteria

§ Previous experience of working in a maintenance, caretaking, or facilities environment.

§ Working knowledge of the principles of Health and Safety.

§ Understanding of the needs of people with a mental illness issues, relevant legislation, and practice guidelines e.g., current mental health legislation and health and safety legislation.

§ Proven track record of supporting individuals towards successful employment and educational development in the context of mental health or other disadvantaged groups.

§ Prior experience planning and implementing activities.

§ Good IT skills: experience with Microsoft Word and Excel, email.

§ Prior experience of working within a clubhouse context or similar participatory managed programme.

§ Demonstrated team leadership skills including motivating people to set and reach targets.

§ Gardening and horticulture skills

§ Full, clean driving license.

Summary of Terms & Conditions of Service

1. The salary for the post; Recovery Support Worker (Café & Garden Unit) is £30,152 paid monthly in arrears by BACS, this includes London Allowance.

2. The post is for 37 ½ hours per week.

3. When necessary, with the prior agreement of the Programme Manager, time off in lieu may be taken.

4. There is no payment for overtime.

5. You will be entitled to 25 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays pro rata. This rises to 28 days annual leave after two years.

6. You will receive regular line management supervision from a suitably qualified person.

7. The post has a 6-month probationary period.

8. The contract may be terminated by giving one months’ notice on either side.

9. The Clubhouse operates an Auto Enrolment Pension scheme.
