Job description
Edfords is an Alternative Provision offering an education programme to young people who struggle within a classroom setting with some of these students requiring 1:1 support.
The programme is teacher lead so the role of a 1:1 support worker is to take instruction from the teacher who will be delivering the programme to a group of 10-15 students and support the young person to complete the tasks of the day.
The group will be working toward certificates for various farm based tasks across a structured programme, the support worker will assist the student to complete the tasks to the best of their ability. Edfords focuses on students doing their best, there is no expectation that all students will achieve the same things at the same time, there may be repetition of tasks to ensure comprehension in what are primarily evidence based tasks.
Edfords work throughout the academic year so this role will include working outside in all weathers (unless extreme), we are a working farm so students will be involved in working with livestock, horticulture and, as an organic farm, conservation projects on the farm.
Some of our 1:1 students have reduced communication so we will offer training to work with students in their preferred method of communication. The successful candidate will need to complete an Enhanced DBS, Safeguarding training and first aid training, other training which may be deemed suitable will also be discussed dependent on the student.
The role will be an exclusive 1:1 so you will be working with the same student 2-4 times per week, this guarantees the stability and consistency for the student.
The successful candidate will have a passion for working with people and a love of the outdoors, an interest in working with animals or in horticulture would be advantageous.
The role starts on Monday September 4th 2023.
