Laboratory Technician (Autoclave)

The University of Surrey is a looking to recruit an Autoclave/ lab technician within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. We’re a recognised world-leader in biosciences research, currently supporting 4000 students in a variety of teaching environments.
Under the direction of the Technical Services Manager, you’ll support operation of high-throughput decontamination and processing of laboratory waste materials as well as occasionally providing support with the delivery of practical classes within the school of Biosciences & Medicine.
Key duties include:
- Collecting and processing biological waste from teaching and research laboratories
- Operating waste autoclaves and glass washers
- Achieving efficient turnaround times for reusable lab equipment
- Working with the team to ensure a reliable, customer-friendly service
- Helping to prepare and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate practical classes
Ideally, you will have experience of working in a laboratory environment and a good understanding of the Health & Safety aspects of working with contaminated materials. You may have worked in a similar role, e.g. food industry, catering, medical or social care. Candidates returning form a career break or parental leavers are encouraged to apply. Flexible working time might be considered. Full training will be given on the relevant aspects of lab safety, chemical handling and biosafety involved.
Key to this role is a practical and methodical approach to work, ability to undertake manual handling of materials and an ability to work independently and have good time management skills.
