The Photosynthesis Research Group (https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/photosynthesis) in the School of Biosciences at The University of Sheffield (School of Biosciences | Biosciences | The University of Sheffield) is looking for a Laboratory technician to help in the day to day running of the research team’s laboratories. The team comprises three PIs, seven Postdoctoral researchers, seven PhD students, a Research Technician and a Laboratory Manager. There are two large main lab spaces which includes storage for all consumables.
Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, you will be responsible for keeping the communal lab areas clean and tidy, maintaining stock levels of consumables, chemicals, tips, various media and glassware. You will also assist team members with cell growth and harvesting cultures for protein purification, sub culturing bacterial cell lines and if required carry out routine PCR screening and plasmid preparation.
You will work as part of a team and you will need to be organised, with the ability to pay close attention to detail and work on your own initiative. Applicants must have 5 GCSEs A*-C/ 4+ including English, Maths, Science and ICT, or a Level 3 Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship, or equivalent experience. Experience of working in a laboratory environment at any level is desirable.
