Job description
The School of Medicine, Dentistry & Biomedical Sciences (MDBS) at Queen’s University Belfast, is currently seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the post of Laboratory Technician within the Wellcome Wolfson Institute for Experimental Medicine.
The postholder will provide specialist technical services to support research and teaching projects of the laboratory headed by Professor Jose Bengoechea. The laboratory aims to understand the infection biology of human pathogens employing a multidisciplinary approach bridging microbiology, immunology and cell biology.
The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate you have:
- Academic and/or vocational qualifications (e.g NVQ level 3, 2 A Levels, ONC/OND, City and Guilds level 3 or equivalents) in a relevant subject.
- 3 years of recent (within the last 36 months) relevant work experience (hands-on) to include (at least THREE of the following):
- Tissue culture (epithelial cells and/or macrophages) and production of bone marrow derived cells
- Confocal microscopy
- Flow cytometry for immunotyping
- Mouse models (breeding, KO assessment)
- Manipulation of biosafety level 2 human pathogens.

This post is fixed term for 34 months or until 31 March 2026, whichever is sooner. Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
