About Us:
The Toxicology team is responsible for the analysis of body fluids and other biological material for alcohol, drugs and poisons in a wide range of criminal cases. Offence types encountered include affray, sexual assault, causing death by dangerous driving, homicide and sudden death. The team also undertakes analyses for H M Coroner in the investigation into the cause of death. We are looking for one Laboratory Technician to join our dedicated team.
Job purpose to:
To provide scientific or administrative support to all team members of the Toxicology Business Unit.
Key accountabilities:
- Prepare laboratory reagents in accordance with inhouse SOPs
- Prepare and maintain reference materials and standard solutions in accordance with inhouse SOPs
- Routine checking of casework quality controls and calibration solutions
- Maintain and carry out calibration of equipment e.g. balance, pipettes, pH meter
- Maintain accurate continuity records
- Maintain the cleanliness of the laboratories
- der supplies including reference materials in a timely manner and goods receipt items.
Candidate specification:
- Further education in a scientific discipline
Required knowledge, experience and technical skills
- Ability to keep detailed and timely records of all tasks completed to satisfy quality procedures
- Ability to multitask and work to deadlines
- IT literate including Word, Excel and Outlook.

To gain security clearance you must have five years continuous residency in the UK.
