Ross & Catherall, part of the Doncasters Group, are a world leader in the manufacture and supply of vacuum and air melted ferrous, nickel and cobalt base alloy and superalloy barstock to the investment casting industry.
We are looking to recruit an experienced Laboratory Technician to join our team.
If you have a level four qualification in a chemistry or related discipline (or equivalent experience) and have experience within a laboratory role within a we would like to hear from you.
This role is for a shift-based Laboratory Technician to work Monday to Friday rotating shift pattern compromising 6.00am – 2.00pm, 2.00pm – 10.00pm and 10.00pm – 6.00am.
The Role
As a Laboratory Technician you will work as part of a small team to provide accurate and timely chemical analysis and cleanliness evaluations using accredited methods, ensuring compliance at all times with our Company policies and procedures in relation to Safety, Health, Environment and Quality.
You will prepare samples and perform chemical analysis to documented methods and procedures using the XRF, spark-OES, gas fusion, combustion and GDMS technique as well as perform micro-cleanliness examinations using optical microscopy. You will also calculate in-process melt additions (bath sample additions).
As part of your role, you will be asked to be an active partner in identifying weaknesses and improvement opportunities within our documented policies and procedures, as well as take the lead on improvement projects within the laboratory environment.
You will also conduct instrument and equipment scheduled maintenance activities, as well as monitor and correct instrument calibration drift.
Requirements:We are looking for an individual who has;
- A minimum Level 4 qualification in a chemistry or related technical discipline, and preferably a Level 6 qualification (according to RQF scale).
- Experience working in a similar environment.
- A basic theoretical knowledge of the analytical techniques we use, and knowledge of other techniques used for analysing metals.
- An understanding of dilutions and concentrations when making solutions.
- An aptitude/competence for preparing samples using abrasive techniques.
- Knowledge and experience of using an optical microscope.
- A certification in IOSH Working Safely or equivalent would be advantageous.
