To meet our current needs, the department is looking for an enthusiastic and organised Psychology Technician who possess appropriate qualifications and would like to support a recently expanded department and technical sub-team.

THE JOB

The primary responsibility of the role is to enhance the day-to-day student-facing activities of the psychology technician team. The post holder will provide technical support and advice to staff and students within the Department of Psychology, specifically in the provision of resources to aid delivery of various course levels (from level 3 to doctoral candidates). The post holder will participate in the organisation, enrichment and delivery of taught practical sessions that support the wider teaching team in various modules, as well as technical-specific workshops hosted by the technical team.

It is a hands-on and student facing role requiring excellent communication skills and a creative and flexible approach to inspire people from a wide range of backgrounds with different learning abilities. The successful applicant will be responsible for promoting a health and safety orientated culture and will be expected to operate a range of equipment and software within the department including, but not limited to, Qualtrics, Gorilla, eye tracking and EEG.

You will be expected to have a good working understanding of VLEs and general IT software (including most mainstream Microsoft products and operating systems, as well as specific statistics packages like SPSS and experimental software used in the Psychology department). The ability to assist with local PC support and equipment maintenance is also essential. You will also be required to help manage the laboratories and equipment, test library and portable resources which can be loaned to staff and students. Good written and communication skills are vital. We are particularly keen to hear from candidates with a good level of understanding and writing code, although this is not essential. Familiarity with experimental virtual reality systems would be an advantage, and a willingness to innovate technical provision for staff and students is also highly desirable. Previous experience in a busy, ever-growing Psychology department would also advantageous.

If you have any questions about the position, please contact Amy-Louise Simkiss – Senior Psychology Technician - via email: [email protected] or the Emily Coyne-Umfreville, Deputy Head of Department - via email - [email protected]
