Job description

About the role
The Oxford Vaccine Group (OVG) are seeking an enthusiastic and driven Laboratory Research Assistant to join the Immunology Research team. Would you like a role which involves development of new vaccines, and novel assay development? Are you looking to gain extensive research experience before undertaking a PhD?
Why not consider a Laboratory Research Assistant role at the Oxford Vaccine Group? OVG conducts world-leading research into new vaccines and optimising existing vaccines for children and adults. Our research has recently led to the much-anticipated introduction of a ChAdOx-vectored vaccine against SARS-CoV2 and of a Meningitis B vaccine for babies into the UK vaccination schedule. The group also focuses on other emerging pathogens and on global health in general.
The role is essential to deliverance of research projects involving new vaccine development against bacterial and viral infections, including pre-clinical studies. You will support the research of Post Doctoral Scientists, whilst obtaining training in working to Good Clinical and Laboratory Practice standards, HTA guidelines and MHRA regulations.
You will use a large variety of techniques from molecular biology and cell biology, to pre-clinical vaccine evaluation, immunological assays and handling and analysis of blood samples from clinical studies. Training will be provided but previous experience in pre-clinical work and immunology techniques such as ELISA, ELISpot and flow cytometry is expected. You will also participate in developing and establishing methodologies that will be used in pre-clinical to clinical vaccine evaluation.
The post is full-time for one year in the first instance.
This role meets the criteria for a UK Skilled Worker visa.
About you
The ideal candidate would be able to work autonomously as well as part of a team, be proactive, participate in meetings and have excellent communication and organisational skills and attention to detail. You should have a keen interest in research and be dedicated to the team’s output.
Application process
You will be required to upload a CV and Supporting Statement as part of your online application.
