Role:
Laboratory Analyst

Job Type: Permanent

Hours: 45 Hours per week

Shift Pattern: 2 early shifts, 2 late shifts, 2 nights shifts, then 4 days off (6 days on, 4 days off)

Job Location: Middlesbrough

Job Description

SGS is actively recruiting for several roles at the laboratory testing facility located in Middlesbrough. We are inviting applications from trainee’s and experienced analysts and technicians across a range of disciplines within the oil, gas & chemicals, solid fuels, minerals, and water sectors.

General day to day activities include

  • Sample preparation
  • Marine product analysis/certification
  • Quality Control
  • Non-routine analytical projects

Training

Full training will be provided through internal coaching and mentoring. In addition, SGS may provide opportunities for external sponsored further education as part of our commitment to invest in our employees.


Qualifications


Skills & Knowledge

Essential

  • Good Maths, English and Science grades at GCSE or above.
  • A good work ethic and a desire to learn.
  • Flexibility to adapt to the changing needs in the laboratory testing industry.
  • Ability to work and plan work with minimal supervision.

Experience

Essential

  • For trainee positions, we request that candidates have a good aptitude for science-based work, an appreciation of the importance of safe working practices and a desire to learn and develop their skills.
  • For experienced positions, we look for a good working knowledge in a laboratory environment, experience of testing/certifying a range of products, ability to adapt skills where necessary to new areas of work.
  • The ability to coordinate workload and meet deadlines through prioritisation and good planning.

  • Chromatography
  • ICP/AAS
  • UV-Vis, FT-IR
  • XRF
  • A wide range of wet techniques
