We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team and provide technical and administrative support to the esteemed Professor Molly Stevens's lab (www.stevensgroup.org) at the renowned Kavli Institute for Nanoscience Discovery. As a vital member of our team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the seamless operation of the lab and contribute to the ground-breaking research conducted in the Department of Physiology Anatomy and Genetics, as well as the Institute of Biomedical Engineering.
Responsibilities:
As a lab technician, you will play a vital role in the daily organisation and management of the lab, ensuring its efficient operation. This includes providing assistance during laboratory inductions for new users, handling the procurement process by placing purchase orders, and meticulously preparing sample aliquots and reagents. Furthermore, you will be responsible for diligently managing the lab inventory and providing essential support for instrumentation maintenance and training.
In addition to your core responsibilities, you will actively contribute to the development of existing experimental projects. This will involve performing fundamental experimental procedures such as cell and tissue culture, isolation, biochemical assays, immunostaining, and gene expression analysis, encompassing techniques such as RNA and DNA extraction, PCR, and molecular cloning, including bacterial transformation and plasmid purification. While comprehensive training will be provided, possessing a foundational understanding of biology- and chemical-based techniques, as well as familiarity with Health & Safety procedures, would be advantageous.
Requirements:
To be considered for this position, applicants must be educated to at least A-level or equivalent qualification in science. Practical experience in a laboratory environment is also essential. Practical experience in chemistry (such as analytical chemistry and chemical synthesis) and/or biology (including cell culture, isolation, biochemical assays, and immunostaining) laboratory techniques is highly desirable, as well as proficiency in general wet lab techniques. The successful candidate will have experience in managing and auditing laboratory inventories, coupled with meticulous attention to detail.
The Role
This is a full-time position, initially fixed-term for 12 months. The successful candidate will be across both the Department of Physiology Anatomy & Genetics, Kavli Institute for Nanoscience Discovery, located at the Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin Building, Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3QU, as well as the Royal School of Mines, Imperial College London, London, SW7 2AZ, UK.
