About this opportunity
We have a fantastic opportunity in our Packaging Science department to evaluate the performance of materials used to manufacture Food and Beverage cans, as a Lab Technician. We are looking for a self-motivated, diligent candidate who is able to work with minimal supervision but also be an effective member of the team.
Main Responsibilities
- Conduct Pack Performance Tests
- Plan tests according to requirements given by Team leader
- Ensure full traceability of samples is maintained by clear and accurate documentation and labelling
- Pack cans (filling, seaming and processing) to industry standards
- Open cans and prepare for examination
- Manage workload and samples using appropriate IT systems
- Communicate with project leaders and Crown businesses
- Work to agreed deadlines
- Evaluate Container and Coating Performance
- Record critical can performance indicators accurately.
- Visually examine samples noting features of interest and relate observations to potential failure modes. Attention to detail and diligence are essential.
- Use more advanced techniques such as microscopy, to investigate potential issues
- Report results in formal reports, making clear conclusions
- General laboratory and pilot plant work
- As part of a busy, multi-disciplinary team, there may be occasions where working in support of other teams is required
Required Education and Qualifications
- A-Levels or NVQ Level 3
Required Knowledge and Experience
- There is no specific experience or knowledge required as full training will be provided.
Required Skills and Competencies
- A practical person with the ability to work with minimal supervision after initial training
- Excellent written communication skills
- Desire to work in laboratory or pilot plant environment
Beneficial Education, Experience, Skills (not required)
- A-Levels or NVQ Level 3 in the following subjects; science, technology, engineering or maths
- Some experience working in a laboratory
- Working as part of a team to deliver results to demanding deadlines
- Creative and strategic thinker
- Intermediate problem solver
