Medical Laboratory Assistant – Haematology
Location: Shropshire House, London
Salary: Competitive
Hours: Full Time/Permanent. Service open between 07:00 to 21:00 Mon to Fri.
Vacancy Summary
We have a brilliant opportunity for a Medical Laboratory Assistant in our Haematology Department.
The post holder will perform duties as part of the Haematology Team under the supervision of Senior Biomedical Scientists, and will participate in the weekly rotation of laboratory areas within the Haematology section.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure all analyser have been maintained as per SOPs
- Complete inter laboratory comparisons
- File samples
- Analyser maintenance
- Check and replenish reagents
- Processing, separating blood/serum/plasma samples for analysis, for referral sites and for storage
- Reagent receipt and acceptance testing
- Make up bone marrow packs
- Make up malaria stain and buffer
- Load new batches of QC onto analysers
- Run the TOSOH QC twice daily
- Check reagent batch numbers and ensure batch number logs are up to date
- Receive samples
- Ensure correct samples are received for tests required and query problems identified
- Process blood/serum/plasma and other body fluid samples for analysis, prepare aliquots for referral sites and for storage
- Complete maintenance and disinfection/ cleaning routines
- Loading and unloading analysers
- Perform defined routine manual tests
- Assist Biomedical Scientists in performing the analytical functions of the Laboratory service
- Stock control and unpacking deliveries
- Respond to Temperature Monitoring System (Tutela) alarms and record findings
Skills & Experience:
- Previous experience in a laboratory, ideally within Haematology
- Effective communication
- Strong team player
- Ability to be flexible with hours & duties where needed
- High level of concentration and work effectively under pressure
