This is an exciting new post which has been created to provide leadership, direction and oversight by for the development and maintaining of Knowledge Exchange (KE) Systems across Lancaster University.

In Research and Enterprise Services (RES) we manage and govern a number of systems that are key to KE operations, relationship management and data capture around the university. Improving, developing and expanding our use of these systems to capture accurate and useful data, and to provide fit-for-purpose, efficient and productive processes for KE and broader Engagement are becoming increasingly important. Maximising the use of such systems in the Lancaster KE Team is critical in improving institutional performance and responses relating to the annual Higher Education Business and Community Interaction Survey (HEBCIS), Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF) and Knowledge Exchange Concordat (KEC).

The Head of KE Systems will provide leadership, direction and oversight by creating and implementing a KE Systems strategy. Interfacing with all University functions to identify, develop and implement solutions for improved KE systems and processes, they will deliver value and continuous improvement for internal and external customers. The role will be a key part of cross faculty and inter-departmental groups, and will work with the Research Support and Systems Manager to ensure a collaborative and joined-up approach to KE and Research Systems development and improvement across the division.


The Head of KE Systems will be responsible for:

  • Project management and product ownership of Knowledge Exchange & Engagement Portal (the university B2B CRM known as KEEP)
  • Identifying broader digital systems capabilities and development opportunities
  • Prioritisation of systems development and support work in relation to KE and Engagement
  • Consolidation of our institutional body of knowledge through digital means
  • Enhancement (and possible integration) of systems which capture KE and Engagement
  • Enhancement of the “customer” experience for our external partners to ensure repeat and new business
  • Increasing knowledge across the Lancaster KE Team of systems to increase departmental intelligence, increase resilience and reduce the risk of having “single points of failure”
  • Providing leadership to support cultural change and “buy-in” across organisational areas
  • Ownership of the optimisation of systems
  • Determining how KE systems grow and develop
  • Delivering systems for management level reporting
  • Delivering systems that identify key partnerships
  • Managing and reporting on budgets associated with the development and growth of KE Systems
  • Line Management of KE Systems personnel


The person appointed will identify cross-team opportunities for learning and resilience building and bring teams together for mutual benefit. The Head of Knowledge Exchange Systems will work closely with the Research Support & Systems Manager given the convergence of the research, enterprise and engagement agenda and the need to build resilience across the division.

The Lancaster Campus is a 560-acre site, which is self-contained yet well connected. Three miles or a ten minute bus ride away is the city of Lancaster which offers opportunities to shop, eat and drink at a variety cafes and restaurants, engage with arts and culture at one of the theatres or museums and visit some of the historical landmarks including the 1000 year old castle.

We offer relocation allowances for staff (grade six and above) who have to move to join us, and have engaged the services of a relocation partner (HCR Ltd) to assist with international relocations.
