Kitchen Assistant
Job Description
As a kitchen assistant in our care home you will be assisting the cook in preparing meals for our elderly residents with enjoyable meals that match their dietary needs. You may also be asked to prepare sandwiches and other simple meals.
Your hours will be between 7.30am - 2pm.
A typical day as a Kitchen Assistant
A kitchen assistant plays an extremely important role within the life of our service users.
As a kitchen assistant you will be ready to start preparing breakfast at 8am. The breakfast will then be put into bay maries and then taken by the carers to serve to the residents.
After breakfast, you will begin helping to prepare lunch with the cook. Once lunch is complete you will begin prepping light tea snacks such as sandwiches. When all the food for the day has been prepared, you can give your kitchen its final cleandown before leaving around 2pm. The menu is subject to change and you can offer your own suggestions on what you would like to see on the menu. There may be additional hours available if wanted.
You will be expected to consult with residents and staff to ensure the development of healthy and balanced meals. These meals will need to be prepared to meet an individual's medical needs (e.g. dysphagia/allergies) and also have an understanding of how their religious/cultural needs may impact their dietary requirements.
