About the Role
Applications are now welcomed for a Stores and Kitchen Assistant role within our friendly QM Food Team. As part of your role you will be working with our goods in and kitchen prep department. Job purpose
To support the back-of-house (kitchen, waste & recycling) and front of house catering operations by ensuring catering premises and equipment are kept clean and tidy, carrying out pot wash and record keeping, and transporting provisions/equipment across all Queen Mary sites as directed by the Head Chef.
To manage the effective preparation of all food to the highest standards. The role holder will report directly into the Head Chef
Main duties and responsibilities
To safely receive all provisions/equipment, food and beverages in line with departmental training and standard operating procedures and complying with all relevant health & safety regulations and training given both departmental and external.
Communication of ordering needs to include but not limited to disposable items, cleaning products and laundry, food items and to assist ensuring adequate stock rotation.
To clean storerooms, refrigerators, cooking equipment, wipe/wash/shampoo the floor and windows, proactively identifying areas in need of attention and addressing them without delay.
Carry out any other general domestic duties including keeping all areas immediately outside the catering outlets clean and tidy, and removal of all catering waste and general rubbish in line with induction training and. With supervision ensure all relevant information and records are kept and updated in order to prove due diligence with catering activities
About You
- Willingness to work in a high volume, commercial catering and hospitality environment
- Have a good standard of communication with all levels of staff and experience of operational delivery at multiple sites & locations
- Be a keen and proactive team member with the ability to produce high quality standard of food preparation and storage, demonstrating a good level of skill within a set time on supported tasks throughout the kitchen
- Play your part to ensure that all food production, storage and disposal is managed and compliant with The Food Safety Act 1990, the ‘Safer Food Better Business’, HACCP, COSHH and Food Hygiene Regulations
- Basic computer skills – email, internet
- A strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and develop in a busy kitchen environment
- To contribute to inducting new team members and continually developing your personal skills
- To be responsible for the efficient and effective use of materials, equipment and ingredients
- Customer satisfaction focused and driven to provide excellent service and a first class student experience
- Ability to work to in house trained timelines and procedures
- The ability to meet UK ‘right to work’ requirements
- High standards of appearance and personal hygiene
- Hours of work to be flexible to include evening, weekends
Benefits
The post is based at the Mile End Campus in London. It is full time (35 hours per week), permanent appointment. Starting salary will be (in the range of) £23,092 - £24,400 of grade 1 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
