Kennel & Cattery assistant
This is a full-time position (42 hours per week)
Working on a 2 week rolling rota. To include working every other weekend, some evenings, and night cover (on-site accommodation provided for night cover- please note this is a sleeping shift.)
We are looking for an enthusiastic and hard working animal lover to join our small team of kennel and cattery assistants.
Responsibilities will include:
· Cleaning of cattery pens and dog kennels
· Preparing & administering feeds for all animals, in line with animals’ specific dietary requirements.
· Washing out feed/water bowls and cat trays.
· Safe disposal of uneaten food and animal fouling throughout the day.
· Appropriate storage and handling of incoming animal foodstuffs and personal belongings.
· Administering medication to animals in their assigned care, as instructed.
· Daily recording of behaviour, working alongside the behaviour team, to maintain and progress programmes.
· Exercise dogs and provide enrichment for the cats and dogs.
· Assist with training of the rescue dogs.
· Complete daily health recording of all animals in your care.
· Assist with Boarding clients and their animals
· Assist any new and existing volunteers with daily tasks.
· Helping to close the centre and all duties associated with locking up.

Teckels is open 7 days a week and shifts are planned on a rota basis.
Applicants may also be required to cover night shifts and will be expected to stay on site, accommodation is provided. Applicants must be over 18 years old, and have a full-clean driving licence.

Role summary:
To be responsible for the care and wellbeing of animals in the centre, in line with “The Five Freedoms”, to ensure that the highest level of care and welfare is being provided at all times.
To include working every other weekend, some evening shifts and night cover (on-site accommodation is provided for night cover, on average one night per week).
Please note the job involves working outdoors in all weather.
Key responsibilities and Main duties undertaken:
1. Daily cleaning of the rescue and boarding Kennels & Cattery
2. Laundry – ensuring all soiled bedding is cleaned and replaced.
3. Preparing & administering feeds for all animals, in line with animals’ specific dietary requirements.
4. Safe disposal of uneaten food and animal fouling throughout the day.
5. Administering medication to animals in their assigned care, as instructed.
6. Daily recording of behaviour, working alongside the behaviour team to maintain and progress programmes, as well as other required admin for the animals in Teckels care.
7. Complete daily health recording of all animals in your care- Boarding and rescue
8. Appropriately Exercising and interacting with the dogs and cats in your care- Boarding and rescue. To include giving enrichment in and out of the kennels, following training plans and ensuring each animals has the best possible experience during their stay.
9. Basic grooming when required.
10. Discuss rehoming animals with potential adopters, and assisting the team in driving adoptions.
11. Giving boarding tours to potential boarding clients/visitors.
12. Advise, train and work alongside volunteers on centre handling procedures and practices.
13. Ensure customer care meets the standards set and expected by the Trustees, at all times.
14. Working within the team but undertaking lone working at times also.
15. Correct use of PPE and other work equipment.
16. If over 21, use of the works vehicle as requested.
17. Actively promote Teckels fundraising events during your day to day interactions with members of public.
18. Site cleaning/care/light maintenance e.g painting.
19. Assisting at off-site events from time to time- E.g our summer show, Christmas fair and bucket collections.
20. Adding animals to the database and ensure it is kept up to date.
21. Other associated tasks as required by the Centre Manager.
Experience:
- Either experience of working in a kennel/animal environment or a relevant Animal related qualification.
- Confident handling dogs of all sizes, and cats.
- Proven ability to work in a fast paced environment.
- Experience of positively embracing and adapting to change
- Experience of Microsoft office and inputting data.

Salary: £10.42 per hour
