Salary: £24,836 - £29,086 (London: £27,696 - £32,186)

We are looking for a Junior Software Engineer to come and join our community of over 170 Software Engineers here at the Office for National Statistics. Specifically, this role sits within the Common ONS Repository for Data (CORD) team; a team responsible for providing BAU DevOps support to the largest database within the ONS - a time series processing system used to produce the national accounts/ Economical stats for England and Wales/ Critical Factors/ GDP/ Inflation & Trade.
Working in a team of junior & senior engineers, you'll be fully supported in developing the skills to ensure effective, professional development of software solutions within a multi-disciplinary team. You'll gain awareness of security, deliver effective testing and get involved in code reviews, fault fixing and the full SDLC - designing, coding, testing, correcting and documenting complex programs with supervision from our senior engineers.
You'll need a good understanding of the key principles of modern software development standards, and able to help fault-fixing, carry out infrastructure maintenance tasks under instruction and help contribute to the design of system components. You'll also need some awareness of the challenges of integrating components into existing systems, and the design, build & testing of interfaces between systems.
We expect you to have experience in some of the following technologies/actions:
Javascript, Java, Python, Git, Oracle SQL/PLSQL, Flask, Jinja, Design & execution of test cases, fix faults, design & test code, R
You will be given full support to develop ability in those you are unfamiliar with.
