Job description

Band 5 - Junior Physiotherapist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Junior Physiotherapist to join our award winning, adult inpatient Orthopaedic team.

We are looking for a highly motivated, dynamic and forward thinking physiotherapist, with the ability to work with a high degree of professional autonomy.

The inpatient team is a friendly, enthusiastic and hard working team winning the Chief Allied Health Professions Officer’s, AHP Quality Improvement Award 2019, for our accelerated rehabilitation protocol for patients undergoing uni-compartmental knee replacements.

We have a world-class reputation for teaching and research and within the wider physiotherapy department, you will benefit from access to a large team of specialist musculoskeletal physiotherapists and clinical specialists.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience of working on the inpatient wards of the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre treating patients undergoing daycase surgery, primary joint replacement, complex revision surgery, daycase surgery, limb reconstruction and sarcoma.

You will be supported to develop clinically and to contribute towards service improvement within Orthopaedics.

The successful candidate will be required to participate in weekend, on-call and late shift working patterns, which will involve working 12-8pm one day a week. Previous NHS experience as a student or a qualified physiotherapist will be an advantage for this role.

1. To assess and provide physiotherapy management and treatment as an
autonomous practitioner for in-patients including those undergoing complex orthopaedic procedures and sarcoma patients with complex presentations and multi pathology. This requires the use of moderate physical effort for several periods during a shift.
2. To formulate accurate prognoses and develop specialised treatment
programmes and discharge plans, based where possible on evidence based practice.
3. To demonstrate highly developed dexterity, co-ordination and palpatory senses for the assessment and manual treatment of patients.
4. To set, maintain and monitor a high standard of clinical practice and
encourage all staff to do likewise.
5. To assess a patient’s capacity to understand and to gain valid, informed
consent to treatment. To work within the legal framework with patients who lack the capacity to give informed consent or refuse.
6. To participate in the weekend, evening on call, and late shift rota’s as required, this may involve adopting a flexible work pattern when requested by the Inpatient Team Lead to cover the inpatient physiotherapy service's twilight hours (16.30-
20.00).
7. To maintain a flexible approach to teamwork and offer help to colleagues in times of high service demand.
8. To encourage health promotion within the hospital by example and advice to individual patients.
9. To manage clinical risk with own caseload at all times
