About the role
The Junior Medical Writer develops the creative and scientific skills necessary to provide well-written copy that meets the brief, is appropriate for the target audience, and is delivered in a timely manner.
The Junior Medical Writer works across a full range of assignments, across various therapeutic areas and for a range of target audiences.
Writing and Editing
- Develop the skills required to produce factually accurate writing within agreed timelines, according to the given brief
- Work with Senior Writers and Account Handlers to interpret the brief, ensuring you have all the information required to meet it
- Show a willing and open mind towards copy critique, learning to address internal and external comments, and question any that are unclear
- Find your creative flair and develop storytelling abilities, learning how to structure a compelling sales story and tailor your writing to different audiences
- Learn to ensure accuracy of all information and data in your work, including the use of regulatory approval software (e.g. Veeva PromoMats)
- Show command of referencing and footnoting, including creating validated, marked-up reference packs to support all work
- Work with other Writers to refine problem-solving skills and the ability to come up with creative solutions
Scientific and strategic understanding
- Develop an understanding of new therapeutic areas, client products, and portfolios
- Develop a basic understanding of industry codes of practice and legislation
- Develop a basic understanding of the clients’ marketing strategies and grow familiarity with the different tactics used
Relationships
- Learn to plan your workload, letting account or project management teams know of any changes to the schedule, maintaining seamless communication
- Participate in brand team huddle meetings and check-ins with your cross-functional team
- Attend client calls where necessary to gain an understanding of wider account activities
Business Development
- Begin to assist with research for pitches and proposals
Skills:
- A degree-level qualification in a science-related discipline
- Proficiency in standard software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Some experience in producing written work to a high quality
- Ability to research medical literature effectively
- Some experience of working in healthcare communications or an equivalent environment
- Experience in writing marketing copy or digital content
