For 30 years we’ve been creating incredible video games at our multiple studios, but Rebellion is more than just games. We have our own film and mo-cap studio, we create board games, publish books, and through 2000AD, publish comics and graphic novels such as the amazing Judge Dredd.
We operate across multiple UK locations, with studios based in Oxford, Warwick, Liverpool, and Wakefield. We are on the lookout for a Junior Material Artist to join our team, where you will have the opportunity to work across a variety of Rebellion projects and liaise across departments to ensure that material art supports the creative direction of the projects whilst maintaining good practices.
Your role as a Junior Material Artist will be to produce quality materials to support the art asset pipeline, participate in creating material workflows and setting up content within our proprietary engine. You’ll work with artists and programmers to create material art and bring it to life in the engine, review creative processes and identify opportunities for improvements to ensure our games are progressive and in line with the direction of industry standards.
Your role will be dedicated to creating high-quality textures and materials. You will proactively collaborate with our art departments to maintain consistent processes and visual quality. As a specialised role within the wider Technical Art team you will play a key role in designing, implementing and maintaining the material process.
Responsibilities:
- Produce high quality materials using the Substance Suite and Photogrammetry workflows.
- Support and maintain the development of our material libraries.
- Create smart materials and filters to aid material creation.
- Assist in designing, implementing and maintaining texturing workflows.
- Collaborate with art teams to maintain consistent material creation processes and visual quality.
- Anticipate and identify production challenges to directors and leads.
Requirements
- Knowledge of Substance Designer and Substance Painter. Knowledge of Substance Sampler would also be a plus.
- Experience with Adobe Photoshop.
- Good understanding of PBR rendering and material/light interactions.
- Able to identify project needs through liaising with multiple art teams.
- Modelling skills in Maya, 3DS Max or Blender.
- Able to create materials from concept/reference.
- Ability to work with a wide range of styles.
- Exposure to Photogrammetry would be advantageous.
