Core working hours are Monday - Friday, 8:45am - 5pm.
Training hours will be Mon - Fri 8:45-17:00, 8:00-16:00 or 10:00-18:00.
Once trained staff may be required to work different hours during the week on a rotational basis shift pattern, with various shifts including: Mon-Fri / Tues-Sat / Sun-Thurs 8:45-17:00. Additional overtime will also be required.
Main duties to include:
- Preparation of media (agars etc.) to be used in microbiological analysis
- Sample preparation in line with company protocols
- Microbiological analysis of food, feed and environmental samples in line with company protocols
- Training and operation of relevant equipment
- General housekeeping of laboratory and prevention of cross contamination
- Accurate Data entry into laboratory database
- Accurate record-keeping associated with UKAS quality system
- Effective communication with all employees
- Report any anomalous results or situations to Laboratory Supervisor
- Educated to degree level/HND in relevant biological science subject,such as: microbiology, biology, biological sciences, food science etc.
- A level in a science related subject
- GCSE English and Mathematics and Science or equivalent
- Computer literate with experience of MS Office applications (in particular Excel)
- Comfortable working in a busy environment
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work quickly and accurately
- Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team
