Job description
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to come and join our Grounds team. The successful candidate should enjoy the challenge of working within a fast-paced environment, whilst recognising that high standards of work is paramount. The successful candidate will work across two sites, Bramall Lane stadium and Sheffield United Training Academy located at Shirecliffe, Sheffield. The postholder will work as part of a cross functional team supporting the Club to ensure that the pitches are up to the highest standard working from a planned maintenance schedule. Due to the nature of work, it is essential that this person is able to work to a flexible shift pattern which includes early starts and late finishes as well as weekend working.
Role Responsibilities:
- Carrying out general grounds duties such as cutting the grass, watering the pitch.
- Supporting with marking the pitch and match preparations.
- Carry out fertiliser programmes to ensure the pitches are maintained to the highest possible standard.
- Ensure machinery is maintained and serviced to an acceptable standard.
- Support the end of season/closed-season pitch renovation programme.
- Ensure pitches are appropriately prepared in a timely manner so ready for training.
- Attend any continual professional development and training courses as directed by your Line Manager.
- Any other duties as reasonably required and/or requested by your Line Manager.
- To adhere to all Sheffield United Football Club’s Safeguarding Policies and Procedures to foster an environment which protects from harm those defined as children and adults at risk.
- To report any concerns of a Safeguarding nature to the relevant parties and remain fully compliant with any applicable Safeguarding checks and due diligence and recognise your responsibility to the Club’s Safeguarding agenda.

Essential criteria required for the role:
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Ability to work within a team to achieve the desired standards.
- Able to work effectively independently using own initiative.
- Full flexibility required as far as shift rota.
- Driven, with a motivation to continue learning and professional development.
Desirable criteria required for the role:
- Qualified with an NVQ Level 2 in Sports Turf Management or equivalent Qualification.
- Experience in working on professional sports pitches is desirable.
- PA1, 2a and 6 Spraying certificates are desirable.
