Job description
As a Junior Graphic Designer, you will be responsible for producing high-quality visual designs and digital assets that align with our brand guidelines and engage a range of audiences in the work of Imperial, supporting our strategic priorities. You will also collaborate closely with internal teams to deliver creative solutions across a wide variety of platforms.
The work of the Junior Designer will contribute to a wide range of activities, including student recruitment marketing, alumni relations, advancement and fundraising activities, campus decoration, College events, and materials for senior leadership, as well as profiling academic research, innovations, and College projects.
With professional support and guidance from the Deputy Head of Design & Editorial, the postholder will work closely with other members of the creative team and the wider Communications division and undertake projects with other teams across the College.
Duties and responsibilities
As Junior Designer, you will work within the Design & Editorial team, collaborating with senior designers to develop and execute creative concepts that meet project objectives, work within brand guidelines, and maintain a high standard of quality.
You will assist in the design and production of various marketing materials, including brochures, flyers, banners, social media graphics and other promotional materials, creating visually compelling work that effectively communicate College messages and enhance user experience.
The Design & Editorial team collaborates with cross-functional teams to understand project requirements and deliver designs within given timelines, and as Junior Designer you will also support them in various administrative tasks and contribute to the overall success of design projects.
The Junior Designer will also assist in managing and organising design assets, including image libraries, templates, and project files, as well as staying up to date with the latest design trends, tools and techniques, pro-actively share new ideas and inspiration with the team.
Essential requirements
- Diploma or degree in Graphic Design or a related field is preferred.
- Experience of working in a design environment (preferably 1-2 years).
- Proficient in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and After Effects) and other design tools.
- A strong portfolio that showcases a range of design projects and demonstrates creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to translate ideas into visually appealing designs.
- Basic understanding of design principles, typography, colour theory, and layout composition.
- Print Production: experience in creating design files for artwork at a high level, and strong knowledge of print processes.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present ideas and collaborate effectively with team members.
- Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- A proactive attitude, willingness to learn and openness to feedback.
Further information
This is a full time, fixed term position for 12 months. You will be based at South Kensington Campus.
