The Role:
Working under the guidance of a senior Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and development of engineering products from the justification stage, through to provision of documentation and technical support in service. This includes the interfaces with related equipment, assembly, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and development and safety validation of engineering products for inclusion in rail track systems.
- Improvement of existing products, processes, and tools
- Comparison of alternative design solutions
- Producing designs for assessment and formal acceptance of product designs through sign-off of drawings and reports
- Ensure a senior Engineer is consulted and informed regarding all emerging risks in new products.
- Reference contract and technical specification documents
- Provision of high quality, accurate work to established drawing, technical or engineering standards
- Use and develop emerging design tools
- Consider commercial deliverables in overall cost of delivery
- Appreciation of product behaviour, manufacturability, and maintainability issues
- Identify and adopt process improvements in area of control
- Timely, accurate and complete processing of design contracts
Skills and Experience:
- Master’s degree (or BEng and further study) in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- Relevant commercial experience
- Ability to build relationships with individuals at all levels
- Excellent written and communication skills
- Auto CAD (Desirable)
- Siemens NX (Desirable)
- Innovative problem solver
- Good knowledge of technical standards, codes and specifications
- A knowledge of Finite Element Analysis would be beneficial
- Working knowledge of the Rail Industry preferred
