The RSC is recruiting a Junior Costume Hire Assistant to join our Costume Hire Department based in The Other Place theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon. Our extensive collection boasts over 40,000 costumes, which are available to anyone who wants to hire them, from amateur to professional, schools to events, TV to events.
As a Junior Costume Hire Assistant, you will work with the Costume Hire team supporting storage, maintenance and hiring of costumes.
Some of your duties and responsibilities will include:
- To organize and prioritise following direction from the Head of Costume Hire and/or Senior Costume Hire Assistant.
- To assist the Costume Hire Assistants if needed when dealing with clients.
- To assist the RSC Designers and Costume Supervisors with their costume requirements.
- To provide a high level of customer service and care to all external and internal clients.
- To assist the Costume Hire Assistants with the listing of costumes chosen for hire accordingly to set guidelines when required.
- To participate in the organization and maintenance of costumes for RSC and other related productions
- To organise and assist with the movement of costumes.
- To ensure that all costumes are maintained and stored in a tidy and secure condition, including the use of efficient and correctly maintained machinery where necessary.
- To assist and monitor all costume related pest control within Costume Hire.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Some experience of costume within a performance environment
- An interest in Costume & Period
- Competent skills in the following Costume-related disciplines:
- Hand and machine sewing skills.
- Fabric types and associated maintenance.
- Alteration and refurbishment techniques.
- The safe use and maintenance of workshop machinery
- Ability to take direction and work to production related standards and objectives.
- The ability to act effectively as part of a team.
- Strong organisation, time management and administration skills.
- Competent Microsoft Office user.
This is a full time, fixed term position for 6 months, based in Stratford-upon-Avon. You will be working 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
