This is an Exciting opportunity for a flexible hardworking and enthusiastic engineer to develop with the support of Galliford try as a commissioning engineer within the water sector and primarily within the Thames Water utility area.


As a junior Commissioning Engineer your development will be focused to ensure the efficient delivery of the Mechanical Electrical ICA (MEICA) & Commissioning of Thames Water AMP7 projects, assigned to commissioning engineer mentor within a project team / project and work closely with the MEICA Lead in the MEICA & Commissioning delivery on the project up to Takeover including all associated document deliverables This will include ensuring the site is fully commissioned and MEICA take over requirements are delivered to the wider project team in a timely manner.


The role encompasses input to the design process, providing a commissioning overview to the project team, includes preparation of detailed procedures to cover the commissioning activities and ensuring the availability of records demonstrating the configuration / testing completed.


Your development will be a managed approach to provide a wide experience of the water & waste water sector

The training programme is based on a minimum of a 2 year period which on conclusion you will competent to be appointed to project duties. Development will also include MEICA installation activities and an understanding of Mechanical & Electrical site supervision.

You will be responsible for implementing and maintaining MEICA safe systems of work in accordance with Site Health and Safety Management procedures at the projects under your control. This includes a regular assessment of new risks and hazards that may not be specifically covered by safety system documentation already in place.

Requirements -

  • Recently completed recognised electrical apprenticeship
  • Experience in the water industry - preferred
  • Willingness to commit to commissioning engineer development
  • Willingness to learn and gain knowledge surrounding water & waste processes and associated mechanical, electrical & ICA (control) systems
  • Role will be site based within the Thames Water London area
  • Demonstrate a logical approach to fault finding and solution development
  • Have a good working knowledge of the Microsoft Office applications to facilitate the creation and presentation of reports as required.
  • Be able to demonstrate an understanding of health, safety and environmental approaches
  • Be able to demonstrate an understanding of water industry processes - preferred
  • Be able to demonstrate an understanding of mechanical and electrical equipment used in the water industry - preferred

Preferably have the ability to undertake the role of a LV Electrical Authorised Person and be able to demonstrate an understanding of permit to work systems.


Training requirements -

  • 5 GCSE or equivalent passed at Grade C or above including Maths, English and a Science
  • Valid CSCS or ECS card (preferred – Galliford Try will support where required)
  • SMSTS or SSSTS (preferred – Galliford Try will support where required)
  • Full driving license
  • First Aid at Work (preferred – Galliford Try will support where required)
  • BS7671 Requirements for Electrical Installations – 18th Edition
