The Royal Derby Hospital Junior Clinical Fellow team prides itself as progressive and engaging to deliver opportunities for successful applicants to progress their careers in Acute, Specialty and General Medicine. The focus of tenure is to enable CREST certification whilst providing mentorship to develop competencies on all fronts.
We are advertising JCF posts in Acute Medicine at the RDH. The posts are intended to provide the clinician with post-Foundation (Internship) experience in Acute Medicine.
The post would be ideal for those who are:
- Planning to pursue a career in Acute Medicine and General Medicine.
- Strongly considering a career in Acute Medicine/General Medicine and Specialty Medicine(Cardiology, Respiratory, Gastroenterology etc.) and are looking for the support and training required to successfully apply for an ACCS post in Emergency or Acute Medicine or IMT training post for General Medicine and Specialty training .
Post 1: Based on the Medical Assessment Unit (MAU), after 12 months an opportunity to work in our Medical Same Day Emergency Care unit (MSDEC) and on our Short Stay wards after successfully fulfilling the contract for a further 12 months.
Post 2: A rotational post of 8 month placements in Medical Same Day Emergency Care (MSDEC), Short Stay wards and MAU over the 2 years. This is a trial phase and may not be offered to new starters during the initial trial period.
These posts can then be extended, with mutual agreement, up to a year.

On the Short-Stay Unit, you will work as part of a three person junior doctor team that will support twice-daily consultant ward rounds operating 7-days per week (2 person team on Ward 315). The three shifts are 0730-1530, 0800-1600/0900-1700 and 1100-1900 and you will work a 5-days 'on'/5-days 'off' pattern.
On the Ambulatory Care Centre (ACC), you will work either 0830-1630 or 1500-2300 Monday-Friday and 1200-2000 Saturday - Sunday, again working 5-days 'on'/5-days 'off'. On ACC you will support the middle grade doctors and the Consultant Physicians.
Key tasks of this role are: -
- Provision of junior support to the Short-Stay, Ambulatory Care Centre and Acute Medicine services.
- Assessment and management of patients on ACC and the Medical Short-Stay Unit.
- Active participation in Clinical Governance, Audit & Teaching activities.
- Administrative tasks for these services
- Keeping up to date with guidelines, protocols and clinical skills
- Participating in CME & CPD
- Participation in annual appraisal & job planning.
The post holder must be registered with the GMC and hold a License to practice and adhere to good medical practice.
Please note that the total salary will vary depending on the post/rota you are allocated/rotated into during the contract however the basic salary will remain as £40,257 pa pro rata.
