If so, we have great opportunity for a Junior Computer Aided Design (CAD) Technician, to support our team of inhouse Design Engineers at our award-winning Operations Centre in Bath.
The role
Wessex Water is one of the top performing water and sewerage companies in the UK, serving 2.8 million customers across the South West of England. Our inhouse Sustainable Operations and Engineering (SOE) department complete a programme of water treatment, wastewater and network projects across the Wessex Water region. We have a solid pipeline of design and construction work that will take us through to the end of 2030 and beyond.
As a Junior CAD Technician, you will be part of a small, dedicated team where you will be trained and mentored to undertake the role. This will include learning the skill of engineering draughting using AutoCAD and Civil 3D. You will also have the opportunity to undertake a ONC/HNC in Civil Engineering to further support your development in the role and to become professionally accredited with industry recognised bodies.
You will also be responsible for:
- producing high quality, detailed engineering drawings to the industry and our team’s standards to meet the programme requirements of the projects
- regular liaison with the Lead Design Engineers to communicate progress and any design issues
- ensuring working procedures are in compliance with the internal drawing governance process
- managing your own time to meet required deadlines.
What do I need?
This role provides plenty of development opportunities, however to be successful we are looking for a practically minded individual with an interest in engineering and/or design.
In addition, you will have:
- good attention to detail and accuracy
- good visualisation skills
- the ability to communicate effectively
- a minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent), including maths and English
- the ability to work under moderate supervision with self-motivation and initiative.
If you have experience in the following it would be beneficial, however full training is provided for the role:
- experience using CAD Software, preferably AutoCAD or similar 2D drafting packages
- experience working with or producing technical drawings
- experience using GIS software
- good PC skills and experience using Microsoft Office.
