Job description
Structural Soils, a member of the RSK Group, is looking for an ambitious Junior CAD Technician to join their team in Bristol, UK.
Structural Soils undertakes ground investigation contracts throughout the whole of the UK from various regional offices. Staff from these offices also link-up to support our strategic major projects. Contracts are undertaken for all sectors but traditionally rail and public sector projects form a large proportion of our workload.
The Role:
You will be responsible for producing CAD drawings from plans provided by the ground investigation engineering teams. Typical drawing types include site location maps, exploratory hole location plans, conceptual site models and foundation detail drawings. These drawings will need to be completed to report quality standard in 2D using AutoCAD. This provides a varied working routine and opportunities to grow skill sets on other software and systems. Software you are likely to use but not limited to include AutoCAD, Microstation, gINT and Surfer. Whilst the CAD responsibilities form the core and significant workload for the Junior CAD Technician role there are also opportunities to assist with other duties within the wider Data Management Team.
This is an exciting and varied opportunity for someone wanting to either start a career in CAD or continue CAD works in the Geotechnical / Earth sciences field with a successful and established company.
Responsibilities:
- The successful candidate will be working day-to-day in a small CAD team within the Data Management Team.
- Daily contact with engineering staff to approve drawings and react to changes in deadlines.
- Carrying out quality assurance (QA) reviews for drawing requests submitted through the CAD Request Helpdesk.
- The candidate will receive full training on our specific company and industry drawing standards.
- The candidate will also be fully trained to use the gINT drawing package to produce trial pit foundation drawings and gINT template designs. gINT is the Geotechnical and Geo-environmental database software used by Structural Soils.
Candidate Requirements:
- The candidate requires a working knowledge of AutoCAD and good general computing skills.
- Candidates with working knowledge of Microstation would be desirable – but not essential.
- Although the majority of drawings will be 2D an understanding of 3D drawing would be beneficial.
Salary and Benefits:
- Competitive Salary depending on experience
- Contributory Pension Scheme
- A flexible benefits programme including the option to buy additional holidays, childcare voucher and private health care
