Buying at Ocado Retail
The Buying Team is responsible for putting the customer at the heart of everything we do, truly living and breathing what our customers want to see when they shop with us! Our team of Buyers curates their ranges to deliver the unique customer experience gleaned from the largest range in the industry. They analyse consumer buying patterns, predict future trends, and work alongside our suppliers to maximise our offering to our customers. All of this is coupled with regularly reviewing performance indicators and profitability to manage the performance of their categories. No day is the same as our Buyers continually work to ensure we offer the right products, at the right time in the right place!
About the role
This role would suit someone starting their career in Buying. You will be responsible for Buying and managing categories within the area of Healthy Lifestyles, ensuring both the supply base and your product range are optimised, proactively using data and analysis to maximise performance and drive sales, profitability, and share growth, all whilst supporting the overall Ocado Retail strategy.

About the role
This role would suit someone starting their career in Buying. You will be responsible for Buying and managing categories within the area of Healthy Lifestyles, ensuring both the supply base and your product range are optimised, proactively using data and analysis to maximise performance and drive sales, profitability, and share growth, all whilst supporting the overall Ocado Retail strategy.
What you'll do
- Manage the category P&L and deliver against KPIs
- With support, complete category reviews to refine the range and align to the business and category strategy
- Deliver trade, promotions, and events plan
- Identify opportunities to improve all-in margin and, with support, negotiate with suppliers to deliver savings
- With support, negotiate with suppliers to agree and deliver market-leading plans aligned to the customer plan and category strategy
- Analyse and assess performance issues and opportunities using data and reporting tools and, with support, devise and implement solutions
- Identify and analyse potential first-to-market / Ocado exclusive product innovation opportunities using customer, market and supplier insights
- Provide input to support the development of category strategy
- Ensure range changes are aligned to category and business strategy
- Manage and review the performance of the supplier base across small or emerging categories through communicating and developing relationships with suppliers to drive engagement and performance
- Work closely with Supply Chain and the supplier base to ensure best-in-class availability
- With support, identify and create plans to mitigate potential issues/events that may impact the supply
- Work closely with suppliers and the category quality team to ensure product quality remains high
- Adhering to all Ocado policies, storage, and handover protocols and successfully completing all of your training so that you have zero GSCOP breaches. Ensuring all agreements are recorded in writing, reporting GSCOP complaints to Legal within 48 hours of receipt
- Following our Business Code of Conduct and always acting with integrity and due diligence
Who you are
- Entry level buying experience
- Excited about working in retail and commercial functions
- Able to analyse data
