Radio 5 Live broadcasts continuous news, sport and topical speech programming, bringing major stories and events as they happen, and providing context through wide-ranging anaylsis and discussion. Our audience relationship is at the heart of all our output, listeners interact on our topics minute by minute and we try hard to reach parts of the UK currently under served by other parts of the BBC.
Main ResponsibilitiesJournalists at 5 Live are critical to the station's output. They are responsible for story ideas, story research, guest fixing, scripting and audio editing. They will attend programme meetings on a daily basis, suggesting stories and guests for that day's output, and will then be required to deliver that content, whether for the linear output or for digital.
Our journalists will often be involved in longer term planning, and will sometimes be out of the office on an Outside Broadcast. As well as having sound journalistic skills, they will also be confident team players, and familiar with 5 Live's audience strategy.
These positions are on the 5 Live Breakfast programme, which has a 24/7 rota pattern including earlies, lates and weekends.
Are you the right candidate?The successful candidate will have;
- Experience as a journalist in broadcast news
- Significant experience of live news production
- Proven interest in news and current affairs
- Experience of digital and social news treatments
- Working knowledge/understanding of 5 Live and its audience
