Job description
Position Type: Full-time, Temporary (12-month assignment)
Reports to: Editor-in-Chief
Division: The Financial Post
Location: Remote (Canada)
The Company:
Postmedia is a Canadian news media company representing more than 120 brands across multiple print, online and mobile platforms. Award-winning journalists and innovative product development teams bring engaging content to millions of people every week whenever and wherever they want it.
This exceptional content, reach and scope offers advertisers and marketers compelling solutions to effectively reach target audiences. We are always on the lookout for talented individuals to join our team.
The Opportunity:
The Financial Post is offering a 12-month contract for an established Canadian business journalist who will help the FP’s audience make sense of the economy at a unique moment in history, contribute to the publication’s editorial direction and help develop an emerging newsroom.
What you’ll do:
The Financial Post is in the service business. It is committed to expanding its audience by adding context and perspective to the news in real time, emphasizing the why of what just happened. It’s rewarding work, but also challenging. That’s why the FP recognizes that it can’t be everything to everyone. Our focus is on the economy, finance and real estate, the energy transition and investing. We avoid chasing stories when we can’t add value.
Executing “real-time why” requires a range of skills and a willingness to adapt to situations. One day, you might jump on breaking news and compile contributions from the newsroom in a way that best helps the audience make sense of complicated events. Another day, you might edit enterprise and feature stories from the FP’s team of reporters and contributors. And on occasion, you will veer off and write or produce enterprise journalism of your own.
Who you are:
- A well-rounded journalist with 5+ years of newsroom experience, preferably covering Canadian business.
- A natural leader who can edit, write and contribute to Postmedia’s audio and video platforms.
- A talent for explanatory journalism is a must.
- Comfortable with data analysis.
