BBC Radio Nottingham aims to set the agenda for our city and county and we’re looking for a talented, creative journalist to join our brilliant team. We give our audiences everything they need to know about life in Nottinghamshire combined with a big dose of entertainment and fun. We strive to reflect everything that’s great about Notts - from the thriving city of Nottingham to the world famous Sherwood Forest. Nottinghamshire’s currently buzzing after the promotion of Nottingham Forest to the Premier League and Radio Nottingham was with the club and its supporters every step of the way – on air and on our digital platforms. We also pride ourselves on shining a light on what’s not quite right too – asking tough questions on behalf of our audiences holding our local and national officials to account on the issues that matter. You will be a journalist who knows how to use audio, video and the written word to bring a story to life, and be full of ideas for segments that prompt interaction both on-air and on socials. We’re also looking for someone with a strong broadcast voice, because you could also be reading our bulletins and appearing live with our presenters from the scene of a breaking story.
Main ResponsibilitiesWe’re looking for a driven and passionate journalist who wants to help us reach new audiences with the content that matters to them. You’ll be a journalist who knows what audiences expect both on-air and on digital, and know how to turn around a story to a tight deadlines. We are looking for a journalist who enjoys working in a busy news environment and on a range of content from breaking news, human-interest stories and features and with an ability to produce a steady stream of their own original content.
Are you the right candidate?The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate creativity in producing news output for a Nottinghamshire audience and have experience of producing output that can be tailored to different platforms, both on-air and online. You will also be able to forward plan and contribute to a strategy to maintain BBC Radio Nottingham as the number one station in its marketplace.
You will have an excellent knowledge of what works on social media across all platforms and how to use them to drive audiences to our brand. Experience of the BBC ViLOR broadcast desk; Open Media and dira! Digital acquisition, playout and editing software is desirable.
