Job description
BBC Radio Guernsey may be small in stature but huge in ambition. Even if we say so ourselves, Guernsey has got to be one of the best places to live and work. You're never more than ten minutes from the sea and we have some of the best beaches in the British Isles. And now we’re looking for a Journalism Coordinator to join our ambitious team.
The BBC is committed to redeploying employees seeking suitable alternative employment within the BBC for different reasons and they will be given priority consideration ahead of other applicants but only if they have Guernsey residential qualification.
Main ResponsibilitiesThe Journalism Coordinator role is an exciting opportunity to work across a range of radio programmes with the potential to become one of our next generation of journalists and programme producers. You'll contribute engaging programme ideas, research guests and topics, and there may be the opportunity to undertake some on-air work.
You’ll deliver programme support duties such as music logging and reporting, updating BBC Sounds programme information, recording and editing multi-track audio.
You’ll also operate a variety of broadcast equipment including the on-air studios, our production desk, and our broadcast vehicles. You may work on weekdays and at weekends including early mornings.
Are you the right candidate? You’ll need to be an enthusiastic, creative, team-player - who loves island life, whilst understanding the bigger picture of our Bailiwick’s relationship with the other Crown Dependencies and the UK.
You’ll be an excellent communicator, being equally as comfortable on-air (reading travel news and delivering personality and entertainment in other items) as you are off air (taking calls, finding on-air guests, and writing scripts.)
You’ll be open to feedback, direction and willing to develop your journalistic and production skills. You’ll have a high-quality control threshold and help to make our content sound as good as possible.
As a confident self-starter who thrives under pressure, you’ll be well organised and have strong administrative and support skills with a great eye for detail.
You’ll know how to create engaging content for digital and social media platforms.
This role will involve working shifts which could involve early mornings, daytimes or weekends.
…Additionally, you’ll feel comfortable contributing to a fun and enjoyable office atmosphere!
