Senior Java Developer Inside IR35
Contract Term: 6 months
Contracting Authority: UK Research and Innovation (UKRI)
Location: Remote (Occasional travel to Swindon Office)
We are seeking an experienced Java Specialist/Developer to join our existing team, focused on upgrading and reducing our dependency on Legacy systems.
The ideal candidate will have proven experience in Java development interfacing Elastic Search, and Node.js technologies.
We currently operate an outdated version of Java, using deprecated calls to Elastic. Your role will be to update both Java and Elastic to their latest supported iterations and update the Java code base. Additional features and enhancements may be required after this has been completed.
Your expertise will be invaluable in guiding our Legacy system workstream, contributing to an improved technology landscape that supports UKRI growth and risk reduction.
As a Senior Java Developer your main responsibilities would be:
· Understanding the existing Java/Elastic code base and deployment.
· Upgrading to the latest versions of Java and Elastic Search.
· Updating the existing Java code base to be functional after the software upgrades.
· Undertake User testing and correct any issues found.
· Implement incremental enhancements, as necessary.
· Work in collaboration with the platform engineer, making changes as required.
You’ll have relevant experience in:
· Proven experience in Java development interfacing Elastic Search, and Node.js technologies.
· Proven knowledge of Java programming language and its core libraries.
· Experience with version control systems such as Git.
· Experience with Node.js and its ecosystem, including popular frameworks like Express.js
· Experience in developing and maintain APIs.
· Familiarity with front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS and Java script.
· Familiarity with containerisation technologies such as Docker.
· Understanding of software testing methodologies and tools.
· Knowledge of cloud platforms and technologies like AWS.
· Experience with Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
· Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented environment.
· Build relationships with key individuals within UKRI.
· Ability to author and/or review technical documentation.
