Job description

CORE has an immediate opening for a full-time Cleaner. The position is permanent after successful completion of a 6-month probation period.

No cleaning experience is necessary, training will be provided.

CORE is a non-profit organization that operates a day program for over 100 adults with developmental disabilities and has been serving the community since 1914. CORE is a lively and dynamic environment. Teamwork and integrity are key values of the organization.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for the cleaning, sanitation, and light maintenance of the two floors of CORE’s facility. The individual must be willing to learn the specific cleaning, health, and safety procedures of the organization, as well as be dependable and adaptable to CORE’s team environment. It is a physically demanding position that entails repetitive cleaning tasks during 8 hour work days. The ideal candidate will be able to effectively clean a busy environment while being responsive to changing needs, as urgent and biohazard clean ups are often necessary due to participant health issues and emergencies.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Clean, sanitize, and stock washrooms
  • Garbage collection and disposal
  • Sweep, mop, and polish floors
  • Dust and general cleaning
  • Clean offices and program areas
  • Clean furniture, accessible windows, and walls
  • Launder cleaning rags and mops
  • Unplug and snake plugged toilets as needed
  • Biohazard and urgent clean up as needed
  • Assist with kitchen sanitization as required
  • Shovel snow and salt main pathway and ramp to building as needed
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies
  • Help receive and carry deliveries
  • Follow all health and safety regulations and CORE’s COVID-19 policies and procedures
  • Report damage and/or repair requirements to supervisor immediately
  • Participate in training opportunities related to the job
  • Communicate with supervisors and team members in a clear and timely manner
  • Be flexible and adaptable and fill in for absent workers or assume a variety of roles as the program and participant needs dictate

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Facility is located in the Parkdale neighbourhood in Toronto
  • Two floors (approximately 16,000 square feet) of a medium rise commercial building
  • Classrooms, offices, large program spaces, an exercise room with gym equipment, washrooms and a shower facility, a large dining area, and an industrial kitchen
  • Work hours are from Monday – Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm
  • Positive, team-oriented work setting

QUALIFICATIONS

  • No cleaning experience necessary
  • Clear and honest verbal communication with supervisors and team
  • Respectful attitude towards individuals from all backgrounds and of all abilities
  • Willingness to learn and participate in training
  • Ability to perform routine physical tasks (lift < 40lbs)
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
  • The offer of employment to the successful candidate will be conditional upon receipt of a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Background Check
