Job description

We are looking for an IT Technician to join an expanding IT team within the Wellcome - MRC Cambridge Stem Cell Institute (CSCI), the Therapeutic Immunology -and Infectious Diseases (CITIID) and the Milner Institute. The CSCI is a world-leading centre for stem cell research with a mission to transform human health through a deep understanding of stem and progenitor cell biology (http://www.stemcells.cam.ac.uk) and is supported by the Wellcome and the Medical Research Council.

The CITIID - Cambridge Immunology is designed to showcase and enhance the University of Cambridge's position as a leading international centre for research and teaching in immunology (https://www.immunology.cam.ac.uk/). The Milner Therapeutics Institute at the University of Cambridge is dedicated to the conversion of ground-breaking science into therapies. (https://www.milner.cam.ac.uk/).

The successful applicant will join an IT team creating a comprehensive IT support service for these multiple departments in a new Capella building on the biomedical campus https://www.stemcells.cam.ac.uk/about-us/newbuilding.

These centres provide outstanding scientists with the opportunity and resources to undertake ground-breaking research. The IT team will support this demanding environment, delivering an effective and efficient service.

Applicants should either be educated to BTEC/HNC standard, hold equivalent industry qualification, or have worked in a computing support role previously. The successful applicant should have good customer service skills and will be expected to have proven hardware and software troubleshooting skills. Experience supporting Active Directory, Windows and Office and experience supporting MacOS is required for this role.

The role holder will provide user support via phone, email and face-to-face contact. You will work closely with the rest of the IT team, managing the data network, audio-visual facilities, and a variety of computer platforms so experience of working as part of team is essential.

Experience using ticketing / documentation systems to manage own work and familiarity with supporting scientific software and equipment is desirable. Managing and/or troubleshooting Linux; scripting and automation - e.g. PowerShell, Unix shell scripting would also be advantageous.

Training will be provided as a mixture of Computing Service courses and knowledge transfer via the senior team members.
