IT Technician


Grieg Seafood BC Ltd., a dynamic and growing company in the Aquaculture industry, is seeking to hire a full-time permanent IT Technician to support the activities of the Global IT department function with primary accountability for the local IT support activities in British Columbia. Reporting to the IT Manager in BC with a dotted line to the Chief Digital Officer in Norway, this full-time permanent position will undertake a variety of network maintenance and administration duties, including desktop systems, communication hardware / software and office systems and other IT support related duties by working efficiently as a key member of the global IT department.


Key Accountabilities:


  • Act as the local IT support for GSF BC and the Grieg Seafood Sales North America.
  • Act as the local IT contact for Advania and Iteam, GSF BC’s Norway-based IT sourcing and support providers dealing with local issues when local on-site support is required.
  • Provide onsite IT support and training by visiting all land and sea sites operating locations on a regular basis.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance for operational IT related infrastructure in production (e.g. cameras, phone systems, AV solutions, printers, network infrastructure etc.)
  • Together with IT Manager in BC act as the contact point towards external service providers for equipment acquisition and maintenance.
  • Keep track of local IT inventory and assist with onboarding and termination of employees from the IT systems.
  • Respond to system outage, support our sourcing providers identifying root cause and troubleshooting as required.
  • Perform technology needs analysis based on the computing infrastructure plan.
  • Participate in regular global IT meetings.
  • Comply to and promote GSF global IT strategies and IT Security policies in daily operations.
  • Work with other divisions to post studies and reports, news, videos, and other material content to corporate website, social media sites, and other public information sources.
  • Understand and adhere to government regulations, Standard Operating Practices, WorkSafe BC regulations and company biosecurity rules and practices.
  • Other IT support related duties and projects as assigned.


Qualifications:


  • Post-secondary education with a focus on Computer Networking and Technical Support, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field and a minimum of 3 years’ experience.
  • Previous experience and knowledge of Cisco products, Microsoft SW products, including general IT competence with good knowledge in data communication,
  • Demonstrated working knowledge within current network infrastructure and security and desktop technologies, remote user access, multi-node networks including firewalls, networked printers and photocopiers etc.
  • Ability to function well in a reactive mode, responding to technical problems with a sense of urgency as they arise.
  • Ability to identify, articulate and troubleshoot technical problems in a “live” environment under quick deadlines and turnaround requirements.
  • Curious and willing to learn.
  • Strong client focus and ability to work with employees at all levels.
  • Demonstrates resourcefulness and judgement to resolve problems of a moderately complex technical nature.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple deadlines and priorities.
  • Flexible and have the ability to adapt quickly to a frequently changing environment where decisions are made quickly.
  • Hands-on, self-sufficient and able to work independently with minimal supervision as well as in a team environment.
  • Responsible, enthusiastic and reliable team player who can demonstrate good communication, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexibility to work overtime to meet conflicting deadlines.
  • Ability to work with highly confidential, sensitive information in a professional manner and exercise discretion in providing information to others.
  • Approachable and displays a positive can-do attitude.
  • Must be comfortable with boarding vessels and flying in small aircrafts in different weather conditions.
