Job description
IT Support Engineer / Remote or South West
We, Greaves Brewster LLP, are a boutique legal services firm requiring enterprise levels of reliability and innovation in our IT. To keep pace with our growth and evolution, we are now looking to appoint a full-time IT Support Engineer to join our internal IT team, providing day-to-day operational and project support.
Our business is intellectual property law. While our headcount is below 50, our clients include some of the largest companies in the world, for whom we handle high-stakes legal deadlines. Our staff are highly skilled professionals, many of whom work remotely. We value technology and have made effective use of it a key differentiator over our competitors. All this makes for a demanding IT environment.
Our operating environment is primarily Microsoft but we also run key systems on Linux and Docker. We rely on a mix of on-site and cloud systems. The core of our specialist business software is currently supported by a third-party vendor, with additional functionality provided by web apps and SQL database customisations developed in-house.
This new role reports directly to the Head of IT and includes the following primary responsibilities:
- Be the main point of contact for internal IT 1st line support requests
- Manage day-to-day IT operations procedures, including user management
- Overseeing initial IT incident and problem reporting
- Use monitoring tools to enable pro-active problem solving
- Playing a part in the firm’s cybersecurity posture and awareness
- Working towards the IT strategy and change management process, getting hands-on with IT projects
- Gain in-depth knowledge of own specific business services
- Look after our asset and license management system
- Ensure IT Service Management SLAs are met
- Keep IT documentation updated and thorough
- Looking out for, and proposing, efficiency and improvement ideas
We’re looking for someone who’s seeking to broaden their current IT support role, or someone with a keen interest in IT wanting their first steps into the career. Support will be provided for the right applicant.
Essential qualifications, skills and attributes:
- Inquisitive and critical thinking skills
- Good prioritisation and organisation
- Familiarity with Windows and Linux servers
- Experience with Microsoft 365 and Azure services
- Basic SQL server / database skills
- High-quality customer care
- A continuous personal development mindset
One or more of the following skills and attributes would be desirable:

- Use of MDM (InTune) and RMM tools
- Familiarity with Linux and Docker
- Virtualisation concepts, Hyper-V
- ITIL Foundation
- Relevant Microsoft or vendor certificates
- Advanced SQL and database ability
Our main hub is in Somerset, surrounded by beautiful countryside; we also have facilities in Bristol. Thanks to our technology, we’ve adapted well to home working and have continued to grow our client base. We thus operate a “work from anywhere, rooted in Cheddar” working model providing both freedom and regular face-to-face contact.
