Job description

The IT Specialist will work in collaboration with various technical teams to develop, launch and maintain systems and applications supporting key research data management and computational infrastructure, including Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning operational infrastructure. You have expertise in Development /Operations(DevOps), server hardware implementation, networking, virtual architectures and the management of test, development and production environments, server patching, and anti-virus/security best practices, for Linux and Windows operations systems. Ideal candidates have worked with health care data, which may include genomics, brain imaging, EEG, medical records, and behavioural data from mobile apps and wearables.   • Working with the technical teams, your responsibilities include the management, integrity and maintenance of the BrainHealth Databank data management and compute infrastructure.
  • Managing ‘the knowledge graph’s system architecture, both physical and virtual.
  • Manage permissions and roles, for developers and system users, in alignment with clinical and research compliance.
  • DevOps frameworks, including Machine Learning (ML) Ops.
  • System monitoring, updates and upgrades.
  • Software development for system additions, including documentation and versioning systems.
  • Maintaining system patches and security configurations/updates in accordance with organizational best practices
  • Conduct research and make recommendations on network and infrastructure products, services, protocols, and standards in support of the network procurement and development efforts
  • Coordinating hardware refreshes, warranties and upgrades as needed.
  • Support Research Informatics Cloud Strategy and service migrations.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Neuroscience, Information Science, or related scientific field.
  • 3+ years of experience providing data architecture or engineering functions.
  • 3+ years of experience working in an active research environment, ideally, including a combination of direct research experience and experience in data management, and technology settings.
  • Experience with OpenStack and Kubernetes platforms
  • Strong knowledge of data management across the research lifecycle, including creation, processing, analysis, preservation, access, and reuse of research data.
  • Experience with agile/scrum development approaches
  • Expertise working with versioning control systems, package management software and software development life cycles.
  • Solid understanding of key DBMS platforms like SQL Server, Oracle and DB2, including technical expertise in data architecture principles and design aspects of various DBMS and reporting concepts.
  • Experience with High-Performance Computing and Storage
  • Experience with data Management applications/databases (e.g. REDCAP, XNAT, LabKey, EMRs)
  • Experience with the operating system (Linux/Unix), administration, and support experience with interface/system integration (Linux/Windows)
  • Experience with Cloud infrastructure and system migrations.
  • Excellent organizational skills with high attention to detail and a determined attitude toward ensuring accuracy and integrity.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills; balancing strategic alignment with the technology roadmap and emerging industry trends with practical delivery.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with research faculty, students, and staff in a team environment.
