Information Technology Specialist / Data Analyst
South Granville has served the City of Vancouver as a high street shopping district for over 100 years. Not only are we a shopping street, we are a neighbourhood with a rich history and strong identity. We boast the largest concentration of art galleries and home décor stores in the City and our community is home to the beloved Stanley Theatre providing award winning live theatre 200 days a year.
The South Granville BIA is geographically defined by the boundaries of Granville Street from 5th Avenue to 16th Avenue (N/S) and to the laneways on the east and west side of Granville. We also represent businesses on the south side of Broadway between Granville and Fir.

The Job:
As the Information Technology Specialist, you will be bringing your technical knowledge to help us update our systems, keep track of data, and build business reports. This position is made possible through the Canadian Summer Jobs Grant for 12 weeks for 30 hours per week beginning as soon as possible.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Make recommendations and implement improvements to the organizational data and network.
- Repair and troubleshoot computer systems, mobile, and networking hardware;
- Collect or oversee the collection of the data in the field;
- Develop and implement a database or data collection system;
- Provide technical expertise on data storage structures, data mining and data cleaning;
- Identify, examine, and process raw data, trends, analysis, and assessments in order to collect information;
- Leverage both analytic and visualization tools, and design and deliver infographics across a range of platforms;
- Weave information and data into a narrative that delivers a compelling story while simplifying numbers to make sense to people in an impactful way.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in an IT-related field such as computer science, technical support, and information technology;
- Minimum of two years experience in computer networks solutions, operating systems, or other IT-related positions;
- Proven experience in data analysis and data visualization with a degree in science, computer science, statistics, economics, mathematics, or other relevant discipline;
- Strong portfolio of data visualization projects from a combined portfolio of academic and professional experience;
- Strong critical thinking and analytical skills with the capability to look at numbers, trends, and data to form new conclusions based on findings;
- Business Development lens on data is an asset.
- Basic Graphic Design – an asset for communication;
- The ability to work independently without supervision;
