Arctic Canadian is a Canadian mining company and a significant producer and supplier of premium rough diamond assortments to the global market. The company owns and operates the Ekati Diamond Mine, located in Canada’s Northwest Territories. In addition to its mining and exploration operations, Arctic Canadian has offices in Canada and Belgium.
Position Overview
Reporting to the Superintendent - IT Communication & Technology and working a two (2) weeks on / two (2) weeks off rotation with 12 hour per day shifts at the Ekati Mine site, the Communications Technician will maintain and troubleshoot a variety of communication systems which includes satellite, wireless & microwave communications, Motorola based radio & paging systems, Security camera & Genetec system, Wenco Fleet control, dispatching, & Drill system, and various mine site communication systems.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Provide Installation and maintenance to the following Security platform systems.
- Installation, programming & troubleshooting experience of Genetec Camera systems including Access card Control.
- Installation, troubleshooting and repair of IP AXIS and PELCO Analogue cameras.
- Provide Installations and maintenance to a wide variety of Communication Systems.
- Installation, programming & troubleshooting of Motorola digital radio repeaters, mobile & handheld radio including Motorola Paging systems is an asset.
- Install & maintain communication towers, power plants, solar array system used for day-to-day communications operations and emergency response throughout the mine site
- Provide Support and Maintenance for the Telephone system at all locations at Ekati.
- Program, installation & troubleshooting of Mitel 3300 IP phone system.
- Program, installation & troubleshooting of Mitel SX2000 for digital & analogue phones.
- Installation & Maintenance of Wenco vehicle tracking systems which include High precision drills, low precision haul trucks for all mine production fleet equipment.
- Wireless, satellite & microwave communications familiarity with 5 years previous work experience in an industrial setting.
- Installation, troubleshooting/splicing/fusing of Fiber & copper wire infrastructure.
- Maintain contact with vendors for support and problem resolution.
- Provide support and maintenance to over 150 cisco & Fortinet network switches, access points, and controllers across the Mine site.
Education/Experience & Skills
- Diploma in Electronic Engineering Technology or Communications, a relevant Journeyperson Certificate, or equivalent.
- A background in maintenance and support of a variety of communications systems in an industrial setting is considered an asset.
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP and other communications protocols.
- 3-5 years of experience in communication systems.
- Familiarity with Wenco installation and support, Motorola radio and paging systems.
- Experience developing a project plan, implementing, monitoring, and closing a project;
- Network certification (CCNA) will be considered an asset.
- Experience supporting Wenco DBHome, Fleet Control, Event Monitor, Bench Manager, and Drill Navigator or equivalent applications.
- Experience using Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Project, and SAP.
- Experience supporting Motorola Digital Radios or equivalent hardware.
- Experience supporting Cisco or Fortinet network hardware: switches, access points, and SD-Wan devices.
- Experience supporting alternate power generation sources for WAN connectivity.
- Experience supporting GPS systems.
- Experience with Genetec Cameras and access control.
- Working in extreme winter conditions is required

Additional Information
Arctic provides travel to and from the Ekati mine site out of Calgary, Yellowknife, and other northern fly points.
