We have a fantastic opportunity for a Service Lead (Development Team Leader) to join us and lead a brilliant team that is focused on maintaining and delivering change to applications that support several of YBS’s customer and colleague services. You’ll be part of a likeminded team in our Digital & Enabling domain within the IT & Transformation function. This is a hybrid role with remote working, but some onsite presence in our Bradford office will be required on an ad-hoc basis.

As you’d expect, we don’t work in isolation, you’ll join an experienced and supportive team including our Testing, Telephony, and Process Automation functions, as well as Technical Engineer and Reliability Engineer.

About the role


As Service Lead, you’ll have the opportunity to lead our Shared Services team within the Digital and Enabling Domain. Our team support and deliver change across a diverse range of our key supporting technologies from our Core customer system to our HR and Financial Crime systems. The technologies used within the team include Cobol, Oracle SQL, PL/ SQL, Oracle Forms, and Perforce, as well as developing in technologies such as Java, Spring Boot Microservices, Oracle HCM, Spring Batch and GitLab. Key priorities within this role will be -

  • Manage and lead the development activities of the team with effective resourcing and ways of working strategies, across live support incidents, small and strategic sized change

  • Ensure appropriate capacity and capability is in place to provide support to critical business services and progress change demand. Working to resolve constraints and overseeing 3rd party IT Service Delivery Partners where required

  • Ensure services delivered by the team meet internal build and security standards, best practice and is aligned to current and target architecture and is compliant with any necessary regulatory requirements

  • Oversee the work in our team following the correct Change Management process and governance, ensuring we adhere to ITIL principals

  • Engage with projects to identify and implement any future capabilities needed within the team, contributing to functional and strategic decision making on behalf of the service through change initiatives and future planning

  • Primary point of contact for operational and business users to resolve issues and provide operational guidance for the services and applications

  • Ensure control frameworks are implemented in line with risk appetite and provide effective assurance and resilience of our IT services


About you

While hands on technology expertise is not essential for this role, you’ll have an appreciation of this with a desire to develop these skills to an appropriate baseline. What will you bring to the role?

  • Planning and organisation skills in order to work with Project Managers to create resource plans, as well as working with the technical expertise to understand estimates and ensure we’re delivering the service required

  • Ability to balance competing priorities and ensure we’re working in an efficient way

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to understand and communicate technical concepts/ constraints to non-technical stakeholders

  • Experience of software delivery lifecycles (ideally within Financial Services) and an awareness of operating in a highly regulated environment

  • Strong influencer and negotiator to bring people on-board to new ways of thinking
