We are committed to delivering a safe and reliable train service, by investing in our fleet of trains, stations and employees. As part of this investment we are looking to recruit an IT Security and Support Analyst on a full time, permanent basis, based in Birmingham.
Job Purpose
Responsible for managing, researching and implementing innovative solutions to strengthen the security posture with a focus on Cloud Software as a Service, Server & End user computing estate, through developing strategies and plans to implement process improvements on all technology platforms, enforce security requirements and to mitigate security risks
Protect the organisation by employing a range of technologies and processes to detect, prevent and manage cyber threats. This can include protection of computers, data, networks and applications.
What does the job involve?
- Work with business units and with other risk functions to identify security requirements, using methods that may include risk and business impact assessments, advising and implementing new solutions to strengthen the security posture within the business.
- Act as an advisory to assess security requirements and controls, to make recommendations and, where appropriate, implement improvements for existing services offered to the business.
- Use advanced analytic tools to determine emerging threat patterns, risks and vulnerabilities.
- To provide prompt and customer focused support from telephone, intranet and email requests to ensure operational incidents are resolved as quickly as possible and within the IT Service Level Agreements for all technology platforms.
- To support and at times lead problem investigation to understand the root cause of faults and lead problem resolution.
- Follow the change management process to include risk assessment and prioritisation of a deployment and ensure a back-out plan is completed and represent the release management process on the Change Advisory Board (CAB) prior to changes being implemented.
- This post is part of an on-call support rota and the duties and support hours of this are covered within the On Call Standard Operating Procedure.

What skills and experience do I need to do the job?
- Knowledge & extensive experience of current computing technologies related in a business environment, in particular Microsoft Active Directory, Azure Active Directory, Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Azure including Intune.
- Extensive experience in delivering process improvement for Cyber Operations.
- Knowledge & experience of designing, installing, securing and supporting current server products to include Cloud Technologies such as Microsoft Azure.
- Experience in designing, testing, implementing and securing the end user computing estate including enterprise deployment.
- Knowledge of working within an XDR platform and delivering recommendations, improvements and mediation that aligns with current attack vectors using a risk-based approach.
- Practical experience in finding and understanding security vulnerabilities.
- Knowledge of PowerShell is desirable.
- Strong technical and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated ability to perform desktop, server and cloud support in Windows environment.
- Basic understanding of virtualisation technologies.
- Basic understanding of networking.
- Knowledge of infrastructure solutions, firewalls, routers with an understanding of packet capture and debugging or understanding traffic flows.
- Basic knowledge of GDPR & Data Protection legislation.
- Knowledge of ITIL aligned Support framework and processes.
- Knowledge and experience of good customer service principles and practices.
- Technical service desk support experience supporting a large customer base.
- Strong technical skills and demonstrated ability to perform infrastructure support.
