Under the direction of the Director of Administration, this role is responsible for overseeing IT support services for the Sipekne’katik owned work locations including the LSK School. This includes troubleshooting issues as they arise and implementing new IT initiatives. This position also supervises, mentors and coaches IT support staff. If a fully qualified applicant is not identified a “IT Manager and Training” may be recruited for instead.
Sipekne’katik First Nations, one of 13 Mi’kmaq Communities in Nova Scotia, is a vibrant, growing, and close-knit community of 2982 band members with approximately 1350 members living on reserve. Indian Brook is located in East Hants (near Shubenacadie) and is conveniently located a short distance of 68 km from Halifax and 28.8 km southwest of Truro, Nova Scotia.
Responsibilities:
· Trouble shoot computer/network issues as reported by users (repairs/replacements).
· Deal with escalated issues that IT support staff are unable to resolve.
· Triage and prioritize IT requests and work orders.
· Communicate, where necessary, with Band staff regarding networking issues and concerns.
· Maintain logs of repairs as well as maintenance schedules.
· Oversee band’s unified communication telephone system.
· Monitor web and database access by users to ensure proper protocol is being maintained.
· Assist with website enhancements and maintenance (web steering committee).
· Oversee the computer/phone set up for new employees with applicable accounts, passwords and technology (e.g. printers, laptops, phones, network infrastructure).
· Administer cell phone program including cell phone replacement.
· Oversee technology replacement schedules and upgrading as well as identify computer or network equipment shortages.
· Identify and implement the systems and processes needed to protect the band’s network, users’ communication, and data security needs.
· Maintain an equipment inventory for all departments that includes serial numbers and model.
· Keep informed of current technology trends and development that includes researching options for technology prior to recommending purchases as outlined in Financial Guidelines and Policies.
· Implement and install new technology systems.
· Assist with external IT Gap Analysis and recommendations for enhancements.
· Educate staff on internal software and hardware usage when needed (e.g. use of new site-specific software such as MS Office, email, computer security).
· Manage computer recycling program for school.
· Assist with radio station technical functions and tower maintenance.
· Supervise and mentor IT staff (currently 2-3 staff).
· Other related duties as determined by Senior Management.
Qualifications:
· Completion of a certificate, diploma, or degree in computers, network administration or equivalent.
· A minimum of five (5) years related experience along with leadership skills.
· An equivalent combination of experience and education will be given consideration.
· Excellent organizational and time management skills
· Thorough knowledge of hardware and software applications with ability to learn new technology.
· Analytical and problem-solving skills.

· This position requires strict adherence to privacy and confidentiality.
· Must have a valid driver’s license & reliable vehicle with automobile insurance.
· Must submit a satisfactory criminal records check. Having a criminal record is not necessarily a determinate factor.
