We have an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join our growing IT services team. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with a passion for offering excellent standards of technical support to customers.
The ideal candidate for this IT Helpdesk Support role will be capable of strong communication levels both written and verbal, as part of on-site visits to customers.
We are looking for a candidate based to the East of the UK, whilst home office-based support will cater for all customers, you will handle site visits for a large part of the lower UK, including Cambridge and Peterborough. Areas surrounding these cities also considered.
Gardlink/EPOS is Gardners own electronic stock control system and customer Electronic Point of Sale cash till, which runs both on standalone and networked PCs.
This IT Helpdesk Support position is a home-based role in which the successful candidate will provide technical support to bookshop customers including both Gardlink/EPOS and/or our websites. This support will span telephone, remote access, email, and some in-person site visits.
You will regularly visit potential, new, and existing Gardlink customers to demonstrate, install, or train them in the use of Gardners software/websites and to install and/or replace hardware, so a friendly and professional manner and smart appearance is essential at all times.
Part of your role will also include creating written documentation of both in-house processes and software instructional guides.
The hours are 9am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday. Once training is complete you will be required to work unattended one in four Saturdays, with a lieu day in the week.
Full training on Gardlink/EPOS, our website, and related software will be given. Starting salary for this position is £26k, based on experience.

Essential Skills
- Full clean driving licence with 5+ years’ experience, and your own suitable vehicle.
- Experience, and a strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems, the Microsoft Office suite, Microsoft SQL express, Backup, antivirus, malware, and firewall solutions.
- A good understanding of small network support.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, and confidence talking to customers.
- A smart, friendly, and professional manner.
- Self-motivated, and keen to improve.
- Ability to take ownership of queries and respond within a timely manner.
- Flexibility and willingness to adapt where necessary to help the wider team.
- Resilience with the ability to problem-solve.
Desired Skills
- Previous experience working as part of a busy IT support desk team.
- Understanding of stock control systems and methods.
- Previous experience or understanding of the book industry.
- Programming experience, e.g., VB scripting, DOS, SQL, C#, .NET, VB.NET.
- PC building experience.
