- Transport patients between hospital wards and departments using beds, trollies and wheelchairs efficiently and courteously to maintain patient safety, assurance and comfort.
- Collect general refuse, confidential and clinical waste from hospital departments and transfer to the disposal and recycling area.
- Transfer boxes of controlled drugs between the pharmacy and wards and departments.
- Transfer blood products and specimens between the pathology department and wards and departments.
- Transfer clean and soiled linen between the linen department and wards.
- Transport deceased patients from wards to the hospital’s mortuary.
- Undertake postal duties, including sorting and delivery of incoming mail and collection and franking of outgoing mail.
- Transport medical and non-medical equipment and furniture between wards and departments.
- Transport and exchange medical gas cylinders between gas store and departments.
- Drive hospital vehicles as requested including motor vehicles to transport supplies, equipment and staff around the hospital site.
- Demonstrate duties to new or less experienced Porters as delegated by the Portering Manager or their nominated deputy.
- Respond to emergency calls (Fire, Evacuation and Major incident) as required, restricting access to areas, controlling traffic flow and controlling the environment in accordance with current Trust procedures.
- Undertake patrols of the hospital, residences, grounds and car parks.
- Provide emergency response to reports of theft, violent incidents, intruder alarms, disturbances, untoward incidents and any potential sensitive situation and following the event, record details of it through the appropriate reporting mechanism.
- Assist medical staff in the control and restraint of patients and undertake minding of patients detained under the Mental Capacity Act.
- Undertake monitoring of CCTV, alerting colleagues to incidents requiring a security presence and recording footage as directed by line manager.
- Monitor alarm system and activate and deactivate alarms as appropriate.
- Direct traffic around the site and in and out of car parks to prevent traffic congestion and restrict traffic movement during Air Ambulance arrivals and departures.
- Issue civil parking charge notices to vehicles parked in contravention of site parking regulations.
- Check car parking ticket machines, reporting faults and replenishing tickets.
- Act as an escort to staff, patients and visitors out of hours and during collections of cash from car parking payment machines.
- Provide general assistance to visitors, staff and patients attending the security office enquiry desk.
- Lock and unlock departments, offices, entrances and exits and issue keys to authorised staff.
- Demonstrate duties to new or less experienced Security Officers as delegated by the Security Manager or their nominated deputy.
- Respond to emergency calls (Fire, Evacuation and Major incident) as required, restricting access to areas, controlling traffic flow and controlling the environment in accordance with current Trust procedures.
Shift coverage is everything around a 24 hour clock due to the high demands of the service and coverage over bank holidays weekends would be frequent and required from the successful candidate. Full uniform is provided.
There is currently no provision for parking on site unless paid for on a daily basis. How you are able to attend the shifts required would need to be considered for the needs of the service.
