Job description
We are looking for an IoT engineer to join our team and work on projects involving smart energy systems. These are innovative and exciting projects that involve the development of software that will run on energy management systems in people's homes or commercial buildings and will be used to automatically control energy equipment in order to help the electricity grid operate more efficiently and to increase the use of renewable energy. We use several development boards, such as the Raspberry Pi or the ESP, as well as AWS platform services and container-based deployments. We primarily need an agile and test-driven development style. This position would be ideal for an engineer with a passion for renewable energy and energy technologies, as well as distributed systems and IoT. There are many challenging issues to tackle within our technology, both now and in the future, covering many areas (Web-Dev/DevOps/data/IoT/AI), and as a start-up, there will be opportunities to gain exposure to and experience in a variety of technologies.
Role:
Developing Python software for data management and integrating sensing and hardware for control applications in energy management systems (EMS).
EMS software and firmware configuration for deployment.
Document the IoT solution using requirements, including source code control tools such as "git".
Developing software to integrate with various energy asset hardware.
Troubleshooting and resolving EMS system challenges.
During the project, line assistance is needed for pre-commercial installations of the EMS and related systems across the UK.
Essential Responsibilities:
Experience of software development (solid understanding of Python). Placements, a personal portfolio, and academic project work are included.
It is essential to be familiar with IoT hardware/platforms (for example, the Raspberry Pi, ESP), Linux OS development, and network protocols (MQTT/MQTTS).
Familiar with sensors and electronics boards connections.
Capable of reading electrical schematics and electronic circuits.
Excellent written and vocal communication abilities.
Effectively plan and manage your own time, as well as coordinate it with others.
Ability to operate individually or as part of a team as required by the job.
Taking ownership and accountability for agreed-upon tasks.
Preferred experience:
* (1) Knowledge/experience of developing applications for sensing and control in hardware systems in a Linux environment.
Experience with containerisation of software applications.
Experience deploying on cloud platforms (we use AWS).
Experience and knowledge of agile practices, test driven development (TDD).
Experience with IoT and edge computing hardware (e.g. Raspberry Pi, Zigbee, ESP).
Nice to have:
* Knowledge and experience working in energy systems.
* MangoDB experience.
* DevOps experience.
